Tesla boss Elon Musk crowns himself ‘Technoking’ and names key lieutenant ‘Master of Coin’ in bizarre Game of Thrones reference

Elon Musk has crowned himself ‘Technoking of Tesla’ while a key lieutenant has become ‘Master of Coin’.

The titles were announced in an official regulatory filing – but no explanation was offered.

Musk, 49, will retain his position as chief executive. Zach Kirkhorn has been given the additional title of ‘Master of Coin’ but will also keep his position of chief financial officer.

Tesla told US regulators: ‘Effective as of March 15, 2021, the titles of Elon Musk and Zach Kirkhorn have changed to Technoking of Tesla and Master of Coin, respectively.’

Tesla’s share price has taken a hit this year following wild swings in the value of digital currency bitcoin, which it invested £1billion in last month.

Musk’s new title could be a reference to his unusually direct involvement in developing Tesla’s signature hardware and software.

Kirkhorn’s ‘Master of Coin’ title is one held by several characters in the drama TV series Game Of Thrones.

It could also refer to bitcoin, following Musk’s recent obsession with the cryptocurrency.
