BMW has issued an urgent recall for almost 17,000 cars over fears drivers of two different models could be at risk of a vehicle fire.
Drivers of the BMW E70 X5 and BMW E71 X6 cars with model years between 2007 and 2010 will be impacted by the national recall.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission announced the recall on Monday, with the luxury vehicle company to contact all known owners of the car.

Concerns have been raised a plug connecting the wiring harness to the blower control could deteriorate over time.
The recall notice warns the damaged plug-in could short circuit or overheat, sparking a fire within the car.
‘A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident, serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders, and/or damage to property’, read the notice.
Owners of the 16,850 recalled cars who purchased their vehicle between 1 January 2007 to 31 August 2010 will be contacted by BMW or authorised dealers.
Affected consumers can arrange a free inspection or repair by contacting the BMW Group Consumer Interaction Centre.
Drivers can also check if their vehicle has a outstanding technical action or safety recall by entering their vehicle’s VIN on the BMW Australia website.
The national recall will impact owners of the BMW E70 X5 and BMW E71 X6 who purchased their vehicle between 1 January 2007 to 31 August 2010
