A young Australian woman was horrified to learn that what she thought was just a yellow cord hanging out of her bedroom’s air conditioner was actually a snake.

Chloe Jade, from Brisbane, shared the anxiety-inducing encounter to TikTok this week with footage showing the snake pop its head out from behind the air unit.

‘I’m sitting in my room and wondering what yellow cord is hanging off my aircon, oh it’s just a SNAKE,’ she captioned the video.

While the video was flooded with comments from many saying they’d be terrified, others pointed out the reptile was a harmless green tree snake.

While admitting she was initially taken aback by the unexpected guest in her room, Ms Jade said she quickly relaxed after realising what type of snake it was.

She said the snake had since slithered out of her bedroom window back outside.

The video has now been viewed more than 365,000 times with many foreigners saying they’ll think twice before visiting Australia.

‘This is why you will never catch me living in Australia,’ one wrote.

‘My bags would be packed and I would be booking a flight somewhere far away,’ another said.

‘Welcome to Australia, hope you enjoy your stay,’ commented another user.

Green Tree Snakes are one of the most commonly found reptiles slithering into Australians’ backyards.

They have no fangs or venom and are therefore not dangerous to humans.

The snakes are found along Australia’s east coast and northern areas of the country, usually covered in a yellow to green colour.
