  • Girlfriend Shannon Vicary admitted arranging for abuse by Colmer to take place
  • Colmer filmed two attacks on his iPad and he was only caught after police found he had accessed child sex abuse websites on his computer and raided his home

  • At Cardiff Crown Court, he was jailed for 17 years and four months while Vicary’s sentencing adjourned until next month so she can receive psychiatric evaluation

A twisted girlfriend found a toddler for her paedophile lover to abuse to live out his child sex fantasies.

Shannon Vicary, 24, secretly plotted for the couple to be alone with the girl – so her older boyfriend could carry out the attacks.

A court heard she was ‘anxious to assist’ Michael Colmer’s sex abuse desires and ‘encouraged’ him in a series of vile Whatsapp messages.

Colmer, 45, filmed two attacks on his iPad and was only caught after police found he accessed child sex abuse sites on his computer.

The child’s mother said her family had been left ‘devastated’ after learning of the couple’s abuse.

Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe said: ‘There were messages between the couple in which they were eagerly anticipating the opportunity to abuse the child.

‘It began with a commentary on a photograph of children in school uniforms of a young age and that commentary became sexual.

‘Colmer sent Vicary a picture of his penis and made references to what they were going to do the next day.’

Cardiff Crown Court heard heard Vicary contrived situations which enabled Colmer to be alone with his victim on two occasions, while her mother was unaware of what was going on.

Mr Cobbe told the court that the victim – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was ‘extremely vulnerable due to her youth’.

Colmer’s home was raided by police after National Crime Agency discovered an email address at the house had accessed indecent images.

Colmer told officers: ‘You’ll find them on my phone and on my iPad.’

The court heard Colmer had more than 600 abuse images of children on his devices including many under the age of 18 months.

Colmer has been jailed for 17 years and four months while Vicary’s sentencing was adjourned. A judge told them they displayed behaviour of an ‘almost unimaginable level of depravity’

In a statement the girl’s mother said: ‘What has happened has significantly affected me.

‘I feel like a bad parent because because I did not know what was going on and could not protect my daughter.

‘I do not understand why these persons did what they did to my daughter. I hope they are never in a position to do this to anyone else.

‘This has devastated me and my family.’

Colmer, of Newport, admitted sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, taking an indecent photograph of a child and making indecent images of children.

Vicary, of Newport, admitted two counts of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.

Her sentence was adjourned until next month for a psychiatric report.

Judge David Wynn Morgan told Colmer: ‘This case reveals behaviour by both you and Vicary of an almost unimaginable level of depravity.

‘You have revealed yourself to be a truly despicable human being.

‘No one can assess the level of damage done to your victim but the level of harm inflicted on her mother is enormous.

‘You pose a considerable risk of danger to young children.

‘Shannon Vicary may not have been interested in children.

‘She was however plainly anxious to assist in the gratification of your sexual desires.

‘You planned these offences and were encouraging each other.’

Colmer was handed an extended jail sentence for the public protection of 17 years and four months meaning he must serve at least 11 years before he can be considered for parole.

Speaking after sentence Det Con Chloe Collins said: ‘I hope that the result today goes some way to offer some comfort to the child involved and her family.

‘They have shown such resilience in what has been an extremely difficult and upsetting time for them.’
