A 20-year-old Minnesota woman has been charged with setting fire to her family’s multi-million dollar lakeside mansion and assaulting her mother with a candle.

Sophia C. Schultz was with first-degree arson and domestic assault last week after police say she burned down her family’s 6,320 sq ft home in the village of Minnetonka Beach on December 27.

Her mom Pamela called 911 at around 11.40pm saying that her daughter was having a mental health crisis and that her house was on fire. Authorities arrived to find the mother-daughter duo standing outside, noting that Sophia ‘appeared emotionless.’

She allegedly told an emergency medical responder that she heard a demon speak to her.

The value of the now-charred five-bedroom, seven-bathroom home, was last pinned at $3.4 million, according to the Star Tribune.

Pamela then woke up to the smell of gasoline and went downstairs to find her daughter standing in the dark, the Star Tribune reports.

Pamela smelled gasoline from a jug in the kitchen and saw a lit candle on the floor.

Sophia allegedly started hitting her mom, who poured the gasoline down the drain.

The daughter then charged at her mom with the candle, sending her fleeing upstairs, according to a criminal complaint.

She continued assaulting her mom as the house burned. Pamela managed to call 911 from a balcony in the home. She climbed over it and was hanging from it, but Sophia grabbed a hold of her legs and assaulted her again, authorities say.

A State Fire Marshal investigation confirmed the fire was caused by arson, WCCO reports.

Schultz was charged by summons and was not arrested. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 17, but court records do not list an attorney for her.
