Sinn Féin deputy leader Michelle O’Neill told Sky News Brexit has made the possibility of a united Ireland “closer than we’ve ever been previously”. She added that the Irish government should prepare for a united island of Ireland, and warned Boris Johnson that, should the UK break up, it would be his own doing.
One user stated: “No need to thank us, we thank you for finally paying back the money we gave you, as your EU friends would not give you money to bail you out.”
Ms O’Neill went on to say that the Conservatives could “not care less” about people living in Northern Ireland.
She said: “This Tory government, Boris Johnson has shown at every turn that they could not care less for the people that live here.
“If that last couple of years of Brexit has taught us anything, it’s that the Tories will never prioritise the interests of people here, whether you be Unionist, Nationalist, or other.”
She went on to attack the British Government for imposing Brexit on Northern Ireland.
Ms O’Neill said: “There was never cross-community support for Brexit. The majority of people here, the majority of political parties on a cross-community basis, voted to reject Brexit.
“Yet it was foisted upon us. It is, in fact, the British government that negotiated the protocol.
“It is, in fact, them who signed up to an international treaty, which they have been putting in jeopardy ever since the ink was barely dry on the agreement itself.

Ms O’Neill is tipped to become the First Minister herself after the Stormont election in May.
