A man is on the run in Tasmania believed to be carrying a gun a day after he managed to flee police.

Luke Eli Jackson evaded officers who were attempting to arrest him on Wednesday afternoon in the regional town of Riana.

Tasmania Police have warned the public not to approach him and say he is travelling in a white 2019 Holden Colardo ute, which was stolen overnight.

Police allege Jackson stole the ute from fruit and vegetable outlet Costa Exchange in East Devonport on Wednesday.

‘The registration for this vehicle (the Colorado ute) is I06 JZZ but may have been altered since its stealing,’ Tasmania Police said of the car’s appearance.

‘There was a blue tank strapped and two tool boxes strapped onto the rear tray of the utility at the time of the stealing.’

They failed to stop Jackson driving through a blockade in Riana and they believe he is driving through the island state’s north-west.

Police are also hunting two suspects after a shooting in Invermay early Thursday morning.

A 52-year-old man is in a serious condition after he was shot when confronted by two people at his car at around 1:30am.

One suspect was wearing a black hoddie with dark tracksuit pants, a slender build and about 170cm tall.

The other was wearing a large black jacket and hood, heavy build and about 175cm tall.
