Teenage girl suffers horrific attack as she is raped in bushland by stranger who followed her off a bus, police say

A teenage girl has been raped after getting off a bus and being dragged into bushes on an island off Brisbane, police say.

The teenager lapsed into unconsciousness after the man dragged her away from a road by the neck and sexually assaulting her on Macleay Island on Wednesday afternoon.

The girl had gotten off a bus near Hamilton Parade when a man she didn’t know started following her, police said.

At one point the girl became unconscious from the man putting his arm around her neck to drag her into the bushes, police said

As they approached the intersection of Williams and Arthur streets, it’s alleged he forced her into nearby bushland.

When she came to, she fought back and her alleged attacker ran off.

The girl managed to get help from a nearby resident and the man was arrested in bushland off Cooee Crescent a short time later.

The 20-year-old, from nearby Russell Island, has been charged with rape and disabling in order to commit an indictable offence. 

He is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Thursday.
