Sydney man almost misses out on Lotto win after daughter HANGS UP on officials thinking it's a scam

A father came close to missing out on a $200,000 Lotto win after his daughter hung up on officials because she thought it was a scam.

The man from Padstow, in Sydney’s southwest, won the first prize in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot on Tuesday night.

When officials initially called to tell him the good news, his daughter answered but didn’t believe the call was real.

‘She came over to me and said “we’ve just received a really weird call, but I don’t believe what they’re saying”,’ the father told The Lott. 

Luckily, the man headed down to his local newsagency to be on the safe side and got the shock of his life when staff told him he was the lucky winner. 

‘I didn’t know what to do or how to act. Things like this don’t happen to people like me,’ he said. 

‘For me, it’s a lot of money, so I am still trying to get over the shock of it. This is good, really good.’

Although the news was still sinking in, the delighted man said he did have a few ideas for his prize.

‘I will definitely share it with my family and spoil the kids. I wouldn’t mind going on a few holidays too,’ he said.

‘Most of it will go to the family, though and I am sure they will find lots of ways to enjoy it. We might have to go out for a celebratory breakfast tomorrow too.’

‘It was very exciting. They came in yesterday to check their ticket and they couldn’t believe it,’ she said. 

‘It was so nice to share in the excitement. We were just as happy as they were. We couldn’t be more pleased the prize has gone to a regular customer.
