Swimmer and kayaker found dead after drowning in popular beauty spots – with one man’s body pulled from the water by surfers

  • A 70-year-old kayaker drowned in Bittangabee Bay in Ben Boyd National Park
  • He was spotted by passersby who desperately battled to save his life
  • Meanwhile another man, a 59-year-old swimmer, also drowned near Byron Bay 

Two men have died in separate incidents along the New South Wales coast.

A 70-year-old kayaker drowned in Bittangabee Bay in Ben Boyd National Park, 43km south of Eden, on Sunday.

Police believe the man was trying to board a runabout, but fell into the water and drowned. 

He was pulled from the water by witnesses who desperately tried to save his life, but he died at the scene.

At Suffolk Park Beach, south of Byron Bay, surfers found another man – a 59-year-old swimmer – floating on the water.

They tried to resuscitate the man but he also died at the scene.
