Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Justin Layne is facing a gun charge and potential 18-month prison sentence after being pulled over for speeding near his native Cleveland on Friday morning.

The 23-year-old was pulled over in Willoughby Hills, Ohio at around 3am when he was caught driving 89mph in a 60-mph zone with two associates in the car, according to the arrest report obtained by DailyMail.com. Layne had an outstanding warrant for his failure to appear in court on another traffic violation and was driving on a suspended license.

A 9 mm Glock handgun was discovered by officers in the center console, according to police. Layne allegedly did not have a license for the handgun.

In all, Layne is charged with speeding, driving with a suspended license and improper handling of a firearm, a fourth-degree felony that carries a potential 18-month sentence and $5,000 fine. Police say they found marijuana in the car, but no drug charges were filed.

Layne made several phone calls while seated in the back of the police cruiser, according to the arrest report obtained by DailyMail.com. He was recorded saying ‘they might get me for the pistol’ and ‘it’s over, I’m going down,’ according to police.

‘They acting like I got some drugs,’ Layne allegedly told one associate on the phone. ‘I got one blunt.’

Layne is the second NFL cornerback to get arrested on a gun charge in the Cleveland area in recent weeks.

On March 25, New Orleans Saints star Marshon Lattimore was booked at Cuyohoga County Jail after being picked up by the Cleveland Police Department’s gang investigators. He was ultimately charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Lattimore was arrested with three other men during a traffic stop after Cleveland Police discovered a loaded Glock 19 handgun in the vehicle, a CPD spokeswoman told DailyMail.com.

A passenger in the car, Lattimore was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, which was later determined to have been stolen out of nearby Euclid, Ohio. He was arrested for failing to notify police about his loaded weapon and for receiving stolen property.

Recently released police body cam footage shows police discovering the unholstered gun near Lattimore’s groin as he sat in the car.

‘You’re gonna shoot your d*** off,’ one officer is heard saying. ‘You got to get a holster or you’re going to blow your you know what off.’

Two other passengers, Kenyon Moon and Maurice Walton, were arrested for having weapons under disability, meaning they are not allowed to own firearms.

Driver Carl Willis was arrested for improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle. He was initially pulled over for several infractions, including a broken taillight.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection and the 2017 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Lattimore began his football journey at nearby Glenville High School before moving on to Ohio State and being picked by the Saints in the first round of the NFL Draft.
