Royal Navy Hawk T1 fighter jet crashes in Cornwall ‘during training exercise as crew ejects from cockpit’

  • Sources confirmed that the jet is from 736 Naval Squadron based at Culdrose
  • Both crew members thought to have safely ejected, suffering only minor injuries 
  • Emergency services remain at the scene of the incident in Helston this morning

A Royal Air Force Hawk T1 jet has crashed in Cornwall after an aircraft engine failure. 

Both crew members are thought to have safely ejected from the jet, suffering minor injuries.  

Military sources told Sky News that the crashed jet was from 736 Naval Squadron based at Culdrose.

Cornwall Air Ambulance says it is responding to reports of an ‘aircraft engine failure’, with two people on board reportedly suffering ‘minor injuries’.

Devon and Cornwall Police said emergency services were at the scene of the incident in Helston.

‘Emergency services are currently in the St Martins area of Helston following reports of a plane crash,’ a spokesman said.

‘Public are asked to avoid the area whilst first responders attend the scene. Updates as we get them.’
