A man jailed for the murder of his ex-wife has lost his second bid to appeal his conviction.
Robert Arthur Meade was in 2013 convicted of bludgeoning to death his ex-wife Sally Brooks in her Donvale home, in Melbourne, and sentenced to at least 19 years behind bars.
The attack happened a week before she was to move to Britain with her three children in 2011.
Meade had sought to appeal this conviction based on what he argued was fresh and compelling evidence from a fellow prisoner, who has since died.
This man swore an affidavit in which he claimed to have seen Meade in the Strathbogie Ranges, far from Donvale, at the time the prosecution alleged that Ms Brooks was attacked.
However, Meade’s appeal was on Monday dismissed at Victoria’s Court of Appeal as Justices Maree Kennedy, David Beach and Simon Whelan said the evidence was not reliable.

‘We consider the evidence to be unreliable in that it is neither credible nor a trustworthy basis for fact-finding,’ they said.
The appeal judges also dismissed an application for bail made by Meade, based on his appeal.
Meade’s first bid to appeal his conviction was dismissed in 2015.
He was sentenced in 2013 to a total of 23 years in prison.
