Despite several arrests and high-profile appeals nobody had been charged with Fidel’s murder.

Detective Inspector Michelle Allen, from the force’s homicide unit, said: ‘We are still actively investigating Fidel’s murder and these charges are a significant step forward in our search for his killer.

‘Fidel’s family have been fully updated with these latest developments and we remain in close contact with them.

Fidel’s mother, Melanie Staple said: ‘Fidel is missed dearly by his family and close friends. All our lives will never be the same.

‘I miss his voice round my house and his infectious personality, for what?

‘Whoever stabbed my son – it may have been an accident, but covering it up is intentional.’

‘Our message to people out there would be if you feel like to need to carry a knife when you go out, then don’t go out.

‘Go do something else instead. At the moment I can’t even talk because it’s so shocking. It is tragic.’

Fidel’s other grandfather Michael Anderson, 58, meanwhile described his Fidel as a ‘positive and happy-go-lucky kid’.

Speaking in 2018, he said: ‘To me, if you are not coming forward, you are defending the person who has done it.

‘If you saw it, and you can go home and lie down in your bed every night knowing that you have seen it, you are just as bad as the person who did it if you don’t come forward.’
