Moment Florida mother of two is struck by car and dragged to her death

Surveillance video captured the moment a Florida woman confronted a road rage driver who stole her daughter’s parking space – seconds before he stepped on the gas and rammed his car into her, dragging her across the parking lot to her death.

Olga Fernandez, 57, was hit by the car around 3:30am Sunday outside her apartment near 1st Avenue and 4th Street in Hialeah, Florida.

Fernandez, a mom-of-two adult children, came to the aid of her 24-year-old daughter after she came home to find someone in her assigned parking spot.

Surveillance footage from the parking lot shows her standing in front of a dark colored Toyota Corolla, waving her hands, and yelling at the driver before he drove the car into her and sped off.

Fernandez was rushed to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police are hoping the video will help them finder the driver and are looking for a dark colored Toyota Corolla with a dent in the front.

Fernandez’ best friend, Ileana Ajo explained to local news what happened early that morning.

She explained that Fernandez’ daughter had just arrived home when she noticed someone was in her parking space.

‘Her daughter said, ‘mom, someone is in the parking lot,’ and her mom went downstairs and she went to the bathroom. When she came out of the bathroom, she heard her mom screaming,’ Ajo said.

Earlier this week, another set of surveillance footage captured paramedics trying unsuccessfully to save Fernandez after she was struck by the car.

The footage obtained by WESH – pixelated to preserve Fernandez’s privacy – shows her being treated on the asphalt, before being lifted onto a stretcher and put into an ambulance.

Tragically, those emergency efforts did not succeed, and she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Family and friends are in shock over Fernandez’s tragic death.

A neighbor, only identified as Jeanette, told Local NBC 10 that she heard the commotion that day, but was afraid to look.

She remembers Fernandez as a wonderful person and credits her with saving her daughter’s life.

‘My daughter had stopped breathing and blacked out,’ Janette said. ‘My mother went out running, but she doesn’t know how to drive. Olga saw my mother, dialed 911 and gave her CPR.’

Ajo said her best friend’s children, Diana, 24, and Freddy, 18, are heartbroken.

‘The girl says that she can’t close her eyes because she sees her mother on the floor bleeding from her mouth, saying, ‘I can’t breathe,’ she said.

‘I feel like half of me has been taken away,’ Ajo continued. ‘Yesterday, I found out that I’m going to be a grandmother again, and I’m far from being happy. I felt sadness because I wanted to call her and tell her, but she wasn’t there.’
