At around 9.30pm the suspect was again seen inside a BP gas station located at 241-15 Hillside Avenue, removing a cell phone charger without paying and fleeing the scene.

The incident comes as New York City continues to see a rising number of crime across the city.

This month a 22-year-old break dancer was stabbed in the back of the leg on the New York City subway.

The victim was performing on the train when he was stabbed twice in the leg and once in the arm.

Police said the victim was stabbed by an unknown individual while on the train at the 14th Street and 3rd Avenue L-train subway station in Manhattan.

The suspect fled after leaving the train at the 1st Avenue subway stop. The victim stayed on the train before getting off at the Bedford station in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg.

As of January 1, there have been 276 instances of crime in NYC's subway system - up 65 percent compared to the same period last year

He was then taken to Bellevue Hospital in Brooklyn, where he was said to be in stable condition.

It remains unclear what led to the stabbing and the incident is under investigation.

The incident came as two female teenagers were arrested after being accused of slashing a 74-year-old man in the face, pushing him to the ground and taking his cell phone on Saturday afternoon after he argued with them while they smoked on the subway.

According to the latest data from the New York City Police Department, since the beginning of the year, there have been 276 instances of crime in the subway system, which represent a 65 percent increase compared to the same period in 2021.

Last month New York Mayor Eric Adams’s was blasted for saying there’s only a ‘perception’ of danger on the city’s subway after a passenger was pushed to her death in a seemingly random attack.

Speaking at a press conference in the wake of the murder, Adams said: ‘New Yorkers are safe on the subway system I think it’s about 1.7 percent of the crimes in New York City that occur on the subway system.

‘Think about that for a moment,’ he added. ‘What we must do is remove the perception of fear.’
