Missing Bristol University student, 20, is found dead, reveals his heartbroken girlfriend in Instagram tribute four days after he disappeared from home

  • Was not been seen since 7am that day and police had been ‘extremely worried
  • News of his sad death was shared by his devastated girlfriend early this morning 

A missing Bristol University student who went missing on Saturday has been found dead.

Olisa Odukwe, 20, had been last seen at his home in Redland at 7am in the morning and his disappearance had sparked an urgent police appeal.

The heartbreaking news of his death was shared publicly online as his devastated girlfriend paid tribute to him just after midnight this morning.

Daisy Barrows wrote simply in a poignant message: ‘Rest in peace my love.’

The sad news came after friends and teammates from his University of Bristol Association Football club had searched nearby Leigh Woods.

Avon and Somerset Police said: ‘Yesterday afternoon, police divers located and recovered the body of a man in Bristol Harbour, near Narrow Quay.

‘While formal identification has not yet been carried out, we have updated the family of missing 20-year-old Bristol student Olisa Odukwe. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.’

Officers had previously disclosed Mr Odukwe had been last seen at 7am on his bike after leaving his home in Redland on Saturday.

He had been a 2nd year mechanics student at Bristol university.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police had said at the time: ‘We’re extremely concerned for Olisa. 

‘He was last seen wearing a grey YG hoodie with a picture of a black goat on the front, and either black shorts or black joggers. He may have a black racer style bike with him.’

MailOnline has contacted the force again this morning, but has not yet received a response. 

Friends and fellow students had shared messages and pictures in an effort to try and track him down or find someone who may have seen him. 

Bristol University had also said it was helping officers with the hunt and providing any information it could to find the young man.

They said on Monday: ‘We are working closely with the police in their search for one of our students, Olisa Odukwe, last seen leaving his home in Redland on Sat morning.

‘We ask the public & University community to be alert & contact the police if they think they’ve seen him.

‘We are supporting Olisa’s friends and family and would urge any other students who are concerned to contact our wellbeing services for support.’
