‘When you come off the curb there’s a ramp coming down and you think you come straight across the road, maybe they [the council] should just dig it out a little bit.’

Despite a 10km speed limit between 7pm to 6am now enforced for e-scooter riders, business owners located on the notorious intersection are calling for council to intervene.

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the problem is not the gutter but instead it’s the ‘people not following the rules’.

‘If you’re crossing a major road, you have to dismantle from the scooter and walk the road,’ Mr Vatskalis said.

The mayor said the council will ‘make things easier’ but riders have to follow the road rules.

‘The best thing to do and the easiest thing to do as a rider of a scooter – follow the rules and don’t drink and drive,’ he said.
