A nanny who looks after the children of Sydney billionaire pub baron Justin Hemmes has allegedly been assaulted by her boyfriend at his city apartment.
Timothy William Shaw, a 35-year-old academic who has a doctorate in philosophy, allegedly attacked 31-year-old Alana Sutherland at Kings Cross on Sunday morning.
Police charged Shaw with domestic violence-related common assault and have taken out an apprehended violence order to protect Ms Sutherland.

She is often seen behind the wheel of a black Range Rover or a blue Fiat Abarth, both of which have Hemmes personalised number plates.
Shaw has taught bioethics at the University of Sydney, runs a website called greatphilosophicalproblems.com and wrote a thesis titled ‘An Ethical Origin of Moral Injury’.
Police allege Shaw attacked Ms Sutherland between 7.30am and 8am on Sunday and he was charged with assault at Kings Cross police station at 8.35am.
A witness said he saw Ms Sutherland outside Shaw’s apartment near Hughes Street, Potts Point, when four police cars arrived on the scene.
‘She was crying in the middle of the street while she watched him get arrested,’ the witness said.
It is believed the pair previously lived together.

Shaw was found guilty of possessing a prohibited drug and placed on a 12-month conditional release order without proceeding to conviction in the NSW istrict Court in December 2020
Shaw was granted bail after agreeing not to assault, threaten, stalk, harass or intimidate Ms Sutherland or anyone with whom she is in a domestic relationship.
He must not recklessly destroy or damage any property belonging to Ms Sutherland or harm any animal that belongs to her. An interim AVO was issued in the same terms.
Shaw must also be of good behaviour and not commit offences while on bail. He is due to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday.
Shaw previously lived in Carrara Road, Vaucluse, in a house which overlooks the Hemmes family mansion and last sold for $7.5million in 2020.
His Linkedin profile states he has ‘distinguished academic credentials in science, psychology, philosophy and ethics and is a member by invitation of numerous academic honour societies.’
Shaw says he has served on the board of a number of ASX listed companies and runs a boutique advisory firm.

Shaw was found guilty of possessing a prohibited drug and placed on a 12-month conditional release order without conviction in the District Court in December 2020.
At the same time, he was convicted, fined $500 and disqualified from driving for six months for being on the road with a prohibited drug in his system.
Hemmes, who was in a relationship with Fowler for three years from 2015, owns at least 70 hotels, restaurants and other entertainment venues.
Ms Sutherland was seen helping the 49-year-old hotelier and Fowler with their daughters a day after he announced the end of their relationship in July 2018.
The recently separated couple was photographed enjoying a picnic with the girls, now aged six and four, and boarding a seaplane back to his $100million property The Hermitage.

A day earlier Hemmes announced his split from Fowler in a statement.
‘Kate and I have the utmost love and respect for each other,’ he said.
‘At the beginning of 2018, Kate and I decided our friendship and respect for family life would become the focus of our relationship.
‘We love our children dearly and for now continue to live together happily in our family home.

‘Kate is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful woman. As for what the future holds I am not sure.’

It was reported in November 2020 that Hemmes had given Fowler a $7.5million Dover Heights cliffside mansion, less than a 10-minute drive from his home.
Hemmes and Fowler met on a boat in Europe in 2014 and she gave birth to Alexa in November the following year. Saachi was born in June 2017.
Ms Sutherland was photographed with Hemmes, his 26-year-old model girlfriend Madeline Holtznagel, and the two children at Byron Bay in July last year.
Hemmes was Australia’s 97th wealthiest person with an estimated $1.2billion fortune on last year’s Financial Review Rich List.
He has recently expanded his operations, which include Sydney venues Ivy, Establishment, Coogee Pavilion and The Newport, into regional New South Wales and Victoria.
