Jarryd Hayne’s brave victim has described how the footballer serenaded her to Ed Sheeran songs, ‘completely’ ignored her when she asked about a taxi beeping out the front and then assaulted her despite saying ‘stop’.
In the days after the 2018 incident at her home near Newcastle, Hayne’s victim was filmed by police detailing her account of what happened with the rugby league star the night he raped her.
The video was shown to a NSW District Court jury which on Monday found Hayne, 33, guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. He will likely be jailed in a matter of weeks.
Both Hayne and the woman had been flirting on Instagram and Snapchat when he swung by the woman’s house that Sunday evening, the court heard.
The jury was told footballer was catching a taxi back to Sydney following a buck’s weekend. He left his female taxi driver waiting out the front of the woman’s house, claiming he was going to grab his bag.
In the police clip, the woman, who cannot be identified, describes how Hayne entered her home and suggested they do ‘singalongs’ to Ed Sheeran covers – including Oasis’s Wonderwall – in her bedroom.
Hayne was last night seen reporting for bail at a police station on the NSW Central Coast, where he must report daily until he is sentenced
But in the victim’s telling, the rugby league star’s visit began to lose all charm when she realised that Hayne’s taxi was waiting for him.
‘There was beeping outside and I was still sitting here, and I was like “I swear there’s like a car beeping outside,’ she recalls.
‘He was like completely looking through me, just ignoring me, just singing.’
The woman told police in the video that she believed she had then looked outside at the taxi, but wasn’t 100 per cent certain.
‘I wasn’t happy. Then there was a knock on the door. Mum answered it.’
It was Hayne’s taxi driver, she said, who wanted to know what was going on.
The woman’s mother then went and knocked on the victim’s bedroom door.
Hayne wouldn’t answer it initially, which the victim urged him to do as otherwise it would seem to her mother that ‘we’re having sex, getting dressed or something.’
‘He’s answered the door and my mum’s said: “the taxi driver’s here.”‘
I was saying no. I was saying stop.
Hayne went out to go speak to the cab driver. At one point, the victim heard him cry out ‘go the Roosters’ at the television. It was the night of the NRL Grand Final.
After realising it was a cab out the front, the victim told police she told her mother: ‘There’s no way anything’s about to happen’.
The woman claimed she then confronted Hayne, asking him ‘are you serious’, and grilled him about the driver’s comment that she had been waiting for 20 minutes.
‘No, I can stay as long as I want,’ he said, according to the victim, adding that he had paid the cab driver $500.
Then Hayne kneeled on her bed, which went ‘bang’. The victim would later learn that a slat underneath the bed had broken.

In her version of events, Hayne was ‘pushy’ and ‘rough’ with her, despite her protests.
In the video she recounts: ‘He’s gotten on me, like pushing me down. I was really really mad, I was saying no. I was saying stop.’
She is seen gesturing around when describing how the incident left sheets and pillow cases bloodied.
In his evidence, Hayne told the trial that he did not have sex with the woman, and knew she didn’t want it.
But he had wanted to ‘please’ her by performing oral and digital sex.
Hayne always denied what happened was anything but consensual but that was repudiated by a jury of seven men and five women on Monday afternoon, after three full days of deliberations.
Hayne will be sentenced on May 6 with Judge Helen Syme saying a custodial sentence is ‘inevitable’. The maximum jail term he faces is 14 years’ imprisonment.
Hayne was also found not guilty of more serious charges of aggravated sexual assault, which would have carried a heavier penalty.
Hayne was granted bail under conditions that he stay in his local area on the NSW Central Coast and pay an increased surety of $50,000.
