Emotional moment a mother-of-two breaks down in tears as she wins Sunrise’s $40K Cash Cow – before revealing her tragic backstory

  • Queensland mother Katelin Grace Trigg won $40,000 on Sunrise on Wednesday
  • She was lost for words initially, before thanking the Channel 7 breakfast team
  • Ms Trigg plans to pay a large ‘hovering’ bill, help her family and buy a new car

A mother-of-two was overwhelmed after winning $40,000 on live television on Wednesday morning – before then revealing her tragic current living circumstances.

Katelin Grace Trigg, from Gracemere in rural Queensland, was initially lost for words after Channel 7 Sunrise co-host David Koch informed her she was taking home $40,000 cash from the show’s popular Cash Cow segment.

Cash Cow is the primary reason millions of viewers tune into Sunrise each morning across the country, with a minimum $10,000 up for grabs each day from Monday through to Friday.

And with no winners this week, the jackpot had increased to $40,000 on Wednesday.

The financial windfall was welcome with open arms, with the Trigg family struggling in recent months.

When asked how she plans to spend the money, the mother to boys aged 8 and 13, broke down.

‘I will pay off (some) debt and then help my family,’ Trigg told Koch and new Sunrise co-host Natalie Barr while choking back tears.

‘Thank you so much, you don’t know how much this means, I love you guys so much.

‘I will pay this bill that has been hovering over us… and then go buy a nice little car.

‘We love Sunrise, the boys and I watch every morning (during the week) plus on Saturday.’

Last month, Queensland bottle shop worker Angela Reilly was stunned after snaring $110,000 in tax free cash from the popular segment.

‘Please tell me this isn’t a joke,’ a shell-shocked Reilly said to Koch and former co-host Samantha Armytage during the life-changing call.

‘I’m sorry, I don’t know what to say, I’m shaking!’
