Police have launched an investigation after six nooses were found at an Amazon facility in Windsor, Connecticut.

Windsor Police found a noose hanging from a steal beam on the second floor of the construction site on Kennedy Road on Tuesday.

Police were called back to the building on Wednesday after reports that another rope had been thrown around a beam. However, police said the second incident was ‘not a noose’.

Officers went back to the site again on Thursday when five more ropes – that the police said could be interpreted as nooses – were found at various locations in the building.

There are no leads or suspects at this time, the police said.

Speaking to Fox61 News, Police Capt. Andrew Power said: ‘We don’t tolerate that. Certainly not today, certainly not today… seven incidents we believe are connected, that’s part of our investigation.’

He added: ‘We want to find out who did it and the motivation behind it.’

In a statement, Windsor Police said: ‘The general contractor of the construction site has been proactive in addressing these incidents and is cooperating fully with law enforcement.

‘They also conducted an anti-discrimination/discrimination awareness training session with all employees on-site.’

There are no surveillance cameras in the area where the noose was found. That part of the building is also accessible to hundreds of employees, police said.

Scot X. Esdaile, president of the Connecticut state conference of the NAACP, suggested the disturbing incidents are part of a ‘backlash’ against recent events, including the conviction of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.

‘They’re really terrorist acts, they should not be taken lightly,’ he told CTPost.

Justin Waters, 34, who works on the site, said he moved to New England from Georgia to get away from this sort of behavior.

He said: ‘There was a lot of racism, a lot of separatism. The proms I went to; a black prom and a white prom.

‘It’s you know, to come up here, I didn’t think it would be like that up here. I moved up here to get away from it.’

A $5,000 reward has been offered to individuals who come forward with  information about these incidents.

The general contractor of the Windsor site has also promised a reward for those willing to identify the person responsible.

The Connecticut NAACP released a statement, saying: ‘It was the NAACP that fought to get these hate crimes in the books and we want to make sure the individuals who committed these hate crimes are held accountable, to the full extent of the law.’
