Chicago man, 20, is charged with murder after ‘stabbing his step-great-grandmother, 76, at least 35 times with a samurai knife after she came home from a Bible study’

  • Isiah Jones, 20, allegedly stabbed his step-great-grandmother 35 times on Wednesday after she returned home
  • Police say he punctured her heart, lungs and cut through her entire body 
  • He then allegedly fled the scene and was found five hours later covered in blood
  • Police claim he confessed to the crime and was rifling through envelopes filled with cash when he was found 
  • It’s unclear what his motive was; he is being held without bail  

A 20-year-old Chicago man has been arrested for murder after allegedly stabbing his step-great-grandmother, 76, 35 times with a samurai sword after she returned home from Bible study.  

Isiah Jones has been charged with the murder of Jearlean Willingham.According to police, he attacked Jearlean in the home where he has lived with her for much of his life after she returned home on Wednesday.

He then fled the home, leaving her lifeless body on the floor of a bedroom for her daughter to find.

Isiah Jones has been charged with the murder of Jearlean Willingham. According to police, he attacked Jearlean in the home where he has lived with her for much of his life after she returned home on Wednesday 

Police found Isiah five hours later and he confessed to the killing.

He was covered in her blood, had a samurai knife and was rifling through paper envelopes containing around $500 in cash, they said. 

It’s unclear if he has any kind of mental illness or where he got the weapon. 

He is now in police custody and has been denied bond. 

Prosecutors said he was shown leaving the home wearing red clothes and carrying a red bag, but his face was not shown.

It is unclear if which way he intends to plea; his attorney said at a recent court hearing that he is of good character, works at the Ross clothing store and is trying to obtain his GED. 

The attorney also said that while prosecutors said he was seen on surveillance cameras near the scene of the crime, his face was not visible in the footage. 

He was held without bail on charges of murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
