A distraught pet owner is begging a catnapper to return their beloved furry friends that were stolen from a boarding house in the dead of night.

CCTV footage appears to show a many breaking into Tango’s Cat Boarding  in Canberra and leaving with two felines under his arms at 2.40am last Saturday.

The owner of the cats was holidaying on the South Coast during the school holidays when she heard the news that her cats had gone missing.

Owner Leah Whitfield adopted the two cats from RSPCA ACT and used Tango’s Cat Boarding Facility on a number of occasions she told the Canberra Times.

‘It was just such a shock when they called. It was the last thing I could possibly imagine happening,’ she told the Canberra Times.

She said not knowing what happened to her pets was the most difficult part of the ordeal, along with knowing she may never see them again.

‘The thought that we might never know where they are – that I think is the worst,’ she said.

Ms Whitfield said hope remained they would turn up despite admitting that it was unlikely the family will be reunited with the cats again.

‘I keep hoping against hope that somehow they might find their way home but that seems quite unrealistic,’ she said.

‘I keep looking out in the back garden just in case, but it’s a long way from where they went missing and where we are.’

She pleaded with the public to return the cats if they saw them.

‘Please take them to the RSPCA or to any vet in Canberra so that we can have them home, I don’t think there would be any questions asked,’ she said.

RSPCA ACT told Daily Mail Australia the man seen at 2.40am in the footage violently smashed and shattered his way into the building.

‘They had pulled off the fly screen and smashed the window, so there was lots of glass on the ground,’ it said.

RSPCA ACT have said it was unclear whether the man stole the cats or they escaped during the break in.

Beau and Luna, the two cats that disappeared from the facility while their owner’s were on holidays, they were both previously adopted from the RSPCA ACT.

RSPCA ACT chief executive Michelle Robertson issued a statement alerting people about the break in a pleading for help to find the catnapper.

‘Someone violently smashed, shattered and forced their way into one of Tango’s Cat Boarding Facility suites,’ she wrote.

‘I am calling on our supporters and friends to please share this post and the photos of Beau and Luna, with the hope that they would be found and that we can reunite them with their family.’

ACT Police have appealed to the public for help identifying the man seen in the CCTV footage.

Police described the man as walking unsteadily and having a mullet style hair and can be seen wearing a large jacket, a beanie and a backpack.

ACT Police have confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation but cannot offer more information at this time.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.
