A bigamist mother-of-three who married her love before having his child behind the back of her ‘sad and distraught’ husband is facing jail.

Brinda Kantamanen, 42, lived a double life – hiding her relationship and pregnancy with Matthew Hall from her husband Ravi.

Kantamanen, who pleaded guilty to one count of bigamy at a previous hearing, appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates Court today, accompanied by Mr Hall.

Her husband’s homes were just three minutes apart and she even entered an incorrect name on her child’s birth certificate.

She was told her case would be sent to the Crown Court where a judge could sentence her to imprisonment. The maximum sentence for bigamy is seven years in jail.

Kantamanen, of Guildford, Surrey, stood in the dock wearing a dark blue coat and face mask and spoke only to confirm her identity.

She was released on unconditional bail. The court adjourned the case to be heard at Isleworth Crown Court on a date to be set.

Magistrate Nigel Shock warned her: ‘Our sentencing powers wouldn’t be sufficient so it would need to be sent to the crown court.

‘This is going to go to the crown court for sentencing on a date to be fixed. Wer’e going to release you on unconditional bail.’

She tied the knot with her first husband, Ravi, in May 1999 in North Carolina in the United States, and enjoyed a traditional Indian ceremony later that year.

The couple later went on to have two children before moving to live in London where Ravi works as a director for an international consultancy firm.

An earlier hearing was told that by 2017 cracks began to show in their marriage and Ravi started suspecting his wife was being unfaithful as she was often away.

He said whenever he tried to confront her she would either ‘become affectionate or threaten suicide’.

In December 2017 he made the devastating discovery that she had married Mr Hall two months earlier at Ealing Town Hall – just a short walk from the family home. Their marriage was officially dissolved in 2019.

Ravi said he now ‘finds it difficult to trust anyone’, adding that his parents were ‘distraught’ by the revelations.

Kantamanen’s marriage to Ravi was formally dissolved in 2019 and she now runs her own computing consultancy firm from her home in Guildford, Surrey.

She will be sentenced next month.
