Migrant mum is accused of stabbing her ‘abusive’ husband to death in front of their two kids before asking one of the boys to CALL police – as victim’s ‘horrific history of violence’ is laid bare

  • Mother-of-two Thi Huynh seeking medical and psychiatric care behind bars
  • 37-year-old charged with murder after her husband was found dead in the home
  • There was an AVO prohibiting Quoc Dung Bui from entering Ms Huynh’s home
  • Ms Huynh did not apply for bail when her matter was heard in court on Tuesday

A mother-of-two accused of stabbing her husband to death will be assessed by psychiatric officers while in custody.

Thi Huynh faced Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday charged with murder after Quoc Dung Bui’s body was found inside her home in Sydney’s west on Sunday afternoon.

Police allege the crime took place between 6am and 7am, and that Huynh, 37, instructed one of her two sons, aged 10 and 16, to call the police hours later.

She was arrested and taken to Bankstown Hospital under police guard for treatment.

Her lawyer told the court he would not be seeking bail for the 37-year-old, instead asking for medical and psychiatric care.

He said Huynh would require additional support while she remains behind bars.

Daily Mail Australia understands the mother-of-two is a migrant with very little family or support networks in Australia.

‘It’s a very sad case,’ a source close to the investigation said.

Huynh’s late husband was subject to domestic violence orders which prohibited him from entering the home she shared with their boys.

He was due to appear in court in July, facing charges of common assault, stalking and intimidating his family.

Court documents reveal Mr Bui, 49, arrived at the home on December 19 armed with a 20cm blade and ‘intended’ to commit an indictable offence against another person.

On the same date, he was charged with assaulting, stalking and intimidating his wife and children in the house with ‘intention of causing fear or mental harm’.

An apprehended violence order was also in place prohibiting him from coming near the family home.

The court ordered a mental health assessment be undertaken before Ms Huynh’s next court appearance on May 25.

‘She can of course apply for bail at any time,’ the magistrate said.

Ms Huynh was housed downstairs in the cells as the first court hearing took place after initially indicating she would apply for bail.

After a brief meeting with Ms Huynh and a translator, her lawyer changed his tune and said his client was no longer seeking to be released.

Detectives earlier revealed the two boys were home at the time of the alleged incident.

‘Unfortunately whilst I can say the two children were present, it’s too early in the investigation to establish exactly what they heard or may have seen,’ Detective Chief Inspector Darren Sly told reporters on Monday.

Her two sons are reportedly in the care of family.
