An Australian man revealed he nearly walked away from a newsagency while trying to buy a Lotto ticket that scored him $2.5million because it was busy and he was in a rush.

The winner, from Darwin, held one of eight division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto draw 4139 on Saturday. Each division one winning entry takes home $2.5 million. 

The Top End man confessed he had been completely oblivious to his win.

‘It’s unbelievable! I had no idea. It wasn’t until I checked my ticket at the newsagency a few moments ago that they told me I was a division one winner that they’d been looking for,’ he said.  

‘You know, I nearly walked away from buying this ticket. It was busy in-store, and I was in a rush, but I thought, ‘bugger it, I’m here now. I’ll buy it.’.

‘I just grabbed a QuickPick. I usually buy a 12 game, but this time I went bigger, and that’s what I won on. It must have been meant to be.’

When asked how he planned to enjoy his life-changing windfall, the NT’s newest multi-millionaire revealed he couldn’t wait to explore his own backyard.

‘I’ll pay off a few bills and help friends and family first up,’ he declared.

‘I’ll be planning a holiday down the track. I’ll start with Australia and then go from there. I’ll be having a beer with my family tonight to celebrate.

‘It’s a bit surreal at the moment. It’s just unbelievable.’ 

Coolalinga Newsagency owner Tanya Syphers said she was thrilled the winner had finally been united with their prize.

‘We are so happy our winner has discovered he is a multi-millionaire,’ she said.
