A look at the VERY lavish gifts Donald Trump gave Scott Morrison

President Donald Trump showered Scott Morrison with more than $10,000 worth of gifts during his time in office, far eclipsing what he handed out to Malcolm Turnbull.

The unique diplomatic keepsakes from American officials include a $3,700 framed map of the Coral Sea, a $3,700 model of the USS Canberra, a $3,000 calfskin leather photo album and a $1,200 Paul Revere silver Tiffany bowl.

The Australian Prime Minister was presented with the items when he travelled to Washington for high-level talks in September 2019.

Newly released declaration documents reveal that other members of President Trump’s administration were also lining up to hand over gifts to Mr Morrison.

It is valued at $3,700 and made from an oak tree lopped down at the Indiana native’s private residence.

The then Secretary of State Mike Pompeo presented Mr Morrison with a mahogany dressing box etched with the federal eagle to symbolise freedom and democracy, also worth $3,700.

Mr Morrison was highly regarded within the Trump orbit and before the former President left office he awarded the Australian leader a top military honor – The Legion of Merit – for ‘leadership in addressing global challenges.’

By comparison it was slim pickings for Malcolm Turnbull who only received a $1,500 telescope from the President Trump and two hand blown glass bowls valued at just $55 each from Vice President Pence.

Mr Turnbull, who left office in August 2018, gifted President Trump with a pair of RM Williams boots.

Mr Morrison gave President Trump a statuette of Australian World War II hero Leslie ‘Bull’ Allen.

Mr Allen was a stretcher-bearer in the Battle of Mount Tambu in New Guinea and saved the lives of 12 US soldiers who had been wounded on the battlefield.

To honor his bravery the American military presented Mr Allen with one of the country’s highest honors, the Silver Star.

Former first lady Melania Trump was given yellow gold stud earrings and their son Barron received a personalised Socceroos jersey.

But perhaps the most bizarre gift ever handed to a US President was the Northern Territory’s $50,000 crocodile attack insurance policy given to Barack Obama in 2011.

At the time, the Territory’s chief minister Paul Henderson said: ‘This is somebody who travels a lot around the world and receives many gifts, but I’m sure he’s never received a gift like this.’

‘And it’ll look pretty good in the presidential library.’
