Taxpayers could save $1000 a year under new plans to change Australia’s tax return system.

The end of annual returns to the Australian Tax Office and a new plan for a standard deduction system means as many as 80 per cent of Australians could pay up to $1000 less.

Blueprint Institute, an Australian think tank, is proposing a $3,000 standard tax deduction for work-related expenses.
