Sir Patrick Vallance and Professor Chris Whitty were united in the belief that people will be forced to live with coronavirus for a considerable while longer. Britain’s top scientists told the Downing Street Covid briefing on Tuesday that the likelihood of the virus being eliminated completely was “next to zero”. Sir Patrick also warned Britons to expect the virus to continue to circulate even after the country emerges from the current pandemic.
Sir Patrick said: “Get numbers as low as we can.
“Don’t expect that this is going to disappear.
“Expect that there will be recurrences of infections particularly in winter and this will become a circulating virus.”
He added the chances of total eradication were “close to zero.”
