You must be yolking! Beauty firm formulates anti-ageing creams from OSTRICH eggs

When it comes to anti-ageing potions it seems we’ll slap just about anything on our faces if it promises to halt the march of time.

Snail slime, fish eggs and bee venom have all been hailed as must-have treatments for banishing wrinkles. And now ostrich eggs are the latest natural remedy to hit the shops.

Scientists at the University of Kyoto, in Japan, reckon these antibodies can help neutralise viruses, chemicals, bacteria and pollen that cause fine lines and wrinkles. 

And beauty firm Ubuna has formulated the antibodies from unfertilised ostrich yolks into a range of moisturisers – which go on sale later this month.

Ubuna’s Thomas Winarick claimed the potions could help reduce and prevent long-term ageing. But the dream of youth does not come cheap. Fans of the eggy cream will have to shell out £180 for a 50ml pot.

But the range has already proved so popular that there is already a 5,000-strong waiting list of women desperate for the Ubuna creams in the UK.

Mr Winarick said that while research into ostrich antibodies has previously been used in healthcare, including to protect against viruses, such as dengue fever and Covid-19, this is the first time they have been harnessed for beauty products and anti-aging.

He said: ‘The ostrich has a strong immune system which makes them highly resistant to infections.

‘Ubuna is the culmination of five years of development. It provides a solution for reducing and preventing long-term ageing, a dull skin tone and sagging skin.’

As well as the ostrich antibodies, Ubuna’s best-selling maximum moisture cream also contains hyaluronic acids – the miracle molecule naturally found in the body’s joints, nerves, skin, hair, and the eyes and which can hold up to 3,000 times its own weight in water, extracts of the yuzu fruit for Vitamin C and sea kelp, from the Ise Shima region of Japan, which boosts ceramide production and hydration.

Customer Sarah Jeck, 51, from London, said: ‘I have tried many anti-ageing creams but never had results like this. I look five years younger, and my fine lines and wrinkles have diminished considerably. It leaves my hands soft too.’

While Jayne Fox, 45, of Burgess Hill, said her skin felt ‘dewy’ and younger after using the range.

‘Although expensive, it’s worth every penny because it makes such a difference,’ she said.
