'You can't take the moral high ground' Channel 4 News host skewers Nicola Sturgeon

Scottish political leaders appeared on Channel 4’s leadership debate as the programme quickly addressed the recent “sleaze” stories that have engulfed Westminster and the Conservative party. After Scottish Tory leader defended Prime Minister Boris Johnson stating he would never make the insensitive comments on lockdown, Nicola Sturgeon took aim at the Tories for their “corruption”. But host Krishnan Guru-Murthy turned his gaze on the first minister stating she could not take a “moral high ground” against the Conservatives considering the sexual harassment allegations which have plagued the SNP.

Appearing on Channel 4’s Scottish Election Debate, the political leaders opened up by discussing the recent lobbying and lockdown comment stories which have damaged the Government.

While Ms Sturgeon took the opportunity to stick it to her main rivals, Mr Guru-Murthy pointed out the hypocrisy of her position.

He said: “Nicola Sturgeon I’m sure you’re enjoying this particular scandal but I mean you’ve been accused of being the pot calling the kettle black.

“When it comes to allegations of the stench of sleaze, can you really take any moral high ground given the long list of sexual impropriety claims that have come from members of your party?”

Ms Sturgeon defended herself and said: “I was investigated over allegations of breaching the ministerial code and I was cleared, rightly, given the allegations that were made I was subject to months of intense scrutiny.

“When allegations about others come forward we investigate them and we take appropriate action.

“In fact you mentioned Alex Salmond in some ways it is because [Salmond] didn’t like the fact I wouldn’t cover up allegations that led to the difference of opinion between us.”

But the First Minister then diverted the focus off herself and to her Tory rival Douglas Ross and accused him of hypocrisy.
