A murder investigation has today been launched following the death of a woman in south east London. 

Police say the woman, aged 20, was found dead at a flat in Belvoir Close, Mottingham, yesterday morning.

A 19-year-old man, who was known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, according to the Met Police.

The victim’s family have been informed and are being supported. 

Police were today seen guarding the entrance to a property in Belvoir Close, while forensic teams were also on the scene.

A spokesperson for Met Police said: ‘Police were called at approximately 5.55am on Wednesday, 7 April to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential property in Belvoir Close, Mottingham.

‘Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service. A 20-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Her next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. 

‘A 19-year-old man was arrested as part of the investigation and taken into custody at a south London police station.

‘Enquiries to established the circumstances are ongoing.’
