Two men have been charged after a car was allegedly driven into police during a dramatic arrest that involved gunshots in a Woolworths carpark in Sydney.

The incident unfolded as police conducted a drug operation in Neutral Bay, on the Lower North Shore, at about 4.20pm on Monday.

Officers attempted to arrest a 24-year-old man in the supermarket carpark but their efforts were thwarted by another man, 25, who allegedly drove his car at police.

The car allegedly slammed into a detective as he moved in to make his arrest.

After the gunshots were fired, the car crashed into a bollard and stopped.

Both men were taken to Chatswood Police Station.

The detective suffered minor injuries to his legs, elbows and wrists from the ordeal but he did not need medical treatment.

Madison Sullivan, who was only 10 metres away from the gunshots, told Daily Mail Australia her ‘heart was racing’.

Footage captured by the 27-year-old showed the moment an undercover cop jumped out of a vehicle and screamed ‘police, police!’ while flashing his badge.

‘It was quite scary. I heard a big loud bang which sounded like a car exploded and I turned around and saw a man shoot another two times at the moving car,’ she said.

‘It was only myself and a couple of others. I think everyone was in shock, they just stayed still and watched what was occurring.’
