  • Followed data from The Lott across 2020 – ‘J’ scored an impressive 11 per cent
  • Lott data revealed players aged in their 60s also enjoyed life-changing wins

The ‘lucky’ first names most likely to win big with Lotto in Australia have been officially announced.

The Lott revealed those with names beginning with J, A and D took home more than 25 per cent of the major division one lottery wins in 2020.

In the 12 months ending on New Year’s Eve last year – and for the second year in a row – players with the first initial of J snared the most division one wins across all lottery games, scoring 11 per cent.

So while the development is great news if you happen to be named Jack or Jill, the Andrew’s and Ava’s of the country were a close second, with the first letter of the alphabet collecting 8.2 per cent of division one wins.

2020 was also encouraging for Lotto players with the first initial of D. The likes of David and Dana accounted for 8.14 per cent of last year’s big collects.

Speaking ahead of Saturday night’s $20 million Lotto Superdraw, Lott spokesperson Lauren Cooney said it will be interesting to see if history repeats itself.

‘It’s always interesting to look at the trends that emerge from division one date,’ she said.

‘If your first name starts with a J and you are in your sixties, 2020 may have been the year for you.

‘But even if you’re a Xander in your 20s, don’t despair as we see lottery winners across Australia, across all adult age groups and with all sorts of names.’

The recent data also revealed that players aged in their sixties enjoyed the most lottery success in 2020, accounting for 26.43 per cent of division one life-changing wins.

Ms Cooney also had some timely advice leading up to this weekend’s $20 million Superdraw.

‘For anyone buying an entry, I recommend that you register your entry to a player card or online account,’ she said.

‘This means your prize is secure and we can then give you a call with the life-changing news if you are holding a division one winning entry.

‘We can’t wait to see how many people’s lives will change after this weekend.’
