St. Louis mall in lockdown as police respond to reports of an active shooter

  • Gunshots were heard around 7:45pm in the West County Mall in St Louis
  • The mall is currently in lockdown and St Louis police are on the scene
  • A security source at the mall told DailyMail.com they are waiting for all-clear 

Police in St Louis have been called to a shopping mall amid reports of an active shooter.

Steve Stein, assistant director of security at the West County mall, told DailyMail.com that gunshots rang out around 7:45pm.

He said the mall was due to close at 8pm, and there were ‘a number of people’ inside.

‘Everybody is in lockdown, and there are police everywhere,’ he told DailyMail.com

‘The police are trying to secure the building. There are a number of people in lockdown, and we’re just waiting for the all clear.’

It was unclear if there were any casualties, or whether the scene was still active.

Stein said he thought the gunman had left the scene, but was not able to confirm.
