Shoppers mock £28,000 Louis Vuitton bag that looks like a plane

Louis Vuitton has been mocked for selling a  bag that looks like a plane – and comes with a ‘ridiculous’ £28,210 price tag. 

The controversial Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2021 Airplane Bag by Virgil Abloh was shared on Twitter by Saint – and features everything from the engine nacelles and wings to stabilisers, which are covered with the dark, masculine Monogram Eclipse canvas.

While the French Fashion house has some more popular pieces that are often spotted on the high-street, there latest release seems to have caused quite the stir online. 

‘You can buy an actual plane for less,’ noted one shopper, while a second mocked the design and joked: ‘Where’s my chapstick? Have you checked the cockpit?’

Abloh’s pricey Fall/Winter 2021 line is inspired by the tourist vs. purist archetypes, which are contrasting masculine sterotypes. 

‘It’s my organizing principle for my point of view when I make things,’ he said, speaking to Vogue in January. ‘A tourist is someone who’s eager to learn, who wants to see the Eiffel Tower when they come to Paris. The purist is the person who knows everything about everything.’ 

The designer told how his line is an autobiographical exploration of his African American heritage and was created as a mean to express his experiences as an African American creative director in Europe. 

However, many struggled to see past the hefty price tag. 

Taking to the comments section, one person asked ‘who the hell is going to be carrying a damn plane around though?’ to which someone else chipped in: ‘Rich people with no fashion taste’ (pictured)

‘One can buy a real plane for that amount,’ wrote one, while a second commented: ‘I’ll glue some handles on a Cobra Rattler and I’ll sell it for half as much.’

A third added: ‘I have the means to procure anything I desire, so my statement is not made due to envy. If the world’s most beautiful women carried this bag, I would literally walk in the opposite direction.’

And when another asked ‘who the hell is going to be carrying a damn plane around though?’ someone else chipped in: ‘Rich people with no fashion taste.’

Elsewhere, others saw the opportunity to crack some plane-related jokes.

‘Now that’s some fly s**t,’ joked one, while a second commented: ‘I’m going to steal this and run down the street with it flying over my head while making plane noises.’
