A serial dog abuser has admitted to kicking and punching two-year-old Scotty for weeks, leaving his partner’s pooch with swelling on his skull and bruises all over his body.

A 27-year-old Perth man has been banned from being near animals for ten years and fined $10,000 after pleading guilty to animal cruelty charges in Rockingham Magistrates Court.

The court heard he would beat the Basenji-dingo cross regularly for digging holes and chewing on objects.

A neighbour alerted the RSPCA after seeing the Parmelia man wrap something around Scotty’s neck before punching him several times, RSPCA WA said in a statement.

The neighbour told the animal protection agency they could hear the dog’s cries for help during beatings over ‘an extended period’ of time.

The man admitted to RSPCA Inspectors who attended the home that he had been belting Scotty for ‘around twice a week for the last few weeks’.

Scotty was seized and taken to Baldivis Emergency Vet Clinic where he was found to have suffered swelling on his skull, bruising across his body and significant muscle damage.

Inspector Manager, Kylie Green, said Scotty suffered deliberate, prolonged cruelty which would have been both terrifying and extremely painful.

‘Dogs, especially young dogs like Scotty, get up to mischief but it’s our job as owners to keep them mentally stimulated and teach them in a loving way using positive reinforcement training,’ Ms Green said.

‘It is never ok to physically injure an animal.

‘What’s particularly distressing about this case is that Scotty had just been adopted from a rescue group six months earlier; he should have found his secure, forever home but instead learned to live in fear and pain.’

Scotty has now been placed into a safe and loving home.
