Reports: Texas A&M WR Demond Demas arrested, suspended
Texas A&M wide receiver Demond Demas has been arrested and suspended from the school for allegedly pushing his girlfriend’s head into a wall and throwing her to the floor, causing her to bite through her lower lip.
The 21-year-old Demas is charged with assault family violence following an incident on Saturday, according to a probable cause statement obtained by the Houston Chronicle from the Brazos County (Texas) Sheriff’s Office. Police did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for the statement.
The alleged victim, who has not been identified, ‘reported that the defendant pushed her head into the wall,’ according to the statement.
‘Then she bit him on the shoulder,’ the statement continued. ‘[She] reported that the defendant then grabbed her and threw her from off of the bed onto the floor, which caused her top front teeth to go through her bottom lip.
‘The injury caused bleeding, loose teeth, swelling and a hole to the bottom of the lip.’
According to the statement, the alleged victim and Demas ‘had been in an intimate dating relationship for a year.’
Texas A&M’s athletic department has since announced that Demas is no longer with the program.
‘Demond Demas has been suspended by the University,’ a department spokesperson said. ‘Athletics is following all University protocols and procedures and he is not with our football program.’
Demas was previously accused of hitting a girlfriend last year, when a woman reached out to the Chronicle claiming that the receiver had hit her daughter, whom he was dating at the time.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Brazos County prosecutors declined to press chargers and he was never arrested.
Demas was also mysteriously missing from a pair of Aggies games last season, but coach Jimbo Fisher did not explain his absence and ultimately allowed Demas to return for the Orange Bowl victory over the University of North Carolina.
The former five-star recruit has also faced marijuana charges in Texas.
Although he was a highly touted talent coming out of his school, Demas had just 15 catches as a redshirt freshman last season, only one of which went for a touchdown.
