An Australian prankster has shared a video highlighting a little-known button on the outside of police cars that turns the sirens on.

The TikTok user posted a series of two videos this week which have been viewed by a combined total of more than a million people.

One video, viewed by 206,000 people, shows someone walking up to the front of a New South Wales Police car and appearing to press something on the bonnet that sends the sirens flashing.

A second video, viewed by 879,000 people, shows a close up of a button on the front grill of the Hyundai Sonata with the caption: ‘You think it’s fake?’

Some people commenting on the video had claimed the clip was fake and the sirens had been turned on from inside the vehicle.

However, many other people said they also knew about the secret switches.

‘It’s real. When I worked at Hyundai we had a contract with the cops and we found the switches,’ one person said.

‘They usually disconnect the switch and highway patrol officers only reconnect it when they might need to quickly block the road,’ another person said.

‘I know someone who did that on Christmas day and got arrested,’ a third added.

After some people commenting said the clip was fake a second video was uploaded showing a close up of the button (pictured)

‘We used to do this ages ago,’ added a fourth.

Hyundai Australia revealed in 2019 they were planning on pushing their new Sonata model’s performance N Line variant to police forces.

The South Korean company uses a turbocharged 2.5 litre four cylinder engine in the Sonata N Line, which has also been known as the i45, making the car one of their most powerful in production.

Daily Mail Australia contacted NSW Police but they declined to provide a comment.
