Talley’s funeral mass was held yesterday in Denver.

The 51-year-old father-of-seven was among the 10 people shot dead when gunman Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, opened fire at the King Soopers store in Boulder on March 22.

According to police, officers arrived at the store one minute and 40 seconds after being alerted to the shooting.

They said Talley led an initial team of officers inside within 30 seconds of arriving and the suspect shot at the officers, killing Talley.

Nine other people, including customers and workers, were also killed.

Alissa, who was wounded in the leg during an exchange of shots with police, has been charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder for firing at another officer.

During Talley’s funeral service, Denver’s archbishop Samuel Aquila said the officer had sacrificed his life and showed what is best about police.

‘Jesus has told us, greater love than this no man has than to lay down his life and Eric lived that,’ he said.

Aquila offered his prayers and condolences for Talley’s family, which include his wife and seven children.

He also said he would pray for the protection of police, who are too often ‘taken for granted.’

‘For too often, you are are taken for granted and yet in situations like this, you are the ones who protect human life,’ Aquila said.
