Stunning drone footage has captured a pod of dolphins swimming off the coast of Cornwall.

Videographer Ricky Vitulli filmed more than a dozen of the cetaceans, which he likened to ‘dancing fairies’.

His video shows the dolphins leaping out of the turquoise water, as they travel in a pod.

The 53-year-old heard about the pod of dolphins from his wife Jenny, who called him after spotting the cetaceans near the coast at Porthminster, St Ives, Cornwall.

Mr Vitulli said: ‘I was just finishing up work when my wife called me on the phone to say there was a pod of dolphins near the beach.

‘I was not expecting it at all as I was preoccupied with other work.

‘I had my drone with a camera attached and thought it would be great to film the dolphins because they looked really pretty.’

Animal lovers were quick to praise the stunning footage captured last Friday.

Jean Ingerson said: ‘What a wonderful sight and great photo.’

Jo Humphrys added: ‘Wonderful to see them from above, thanks for sharing.’

Just a few days earlier (January 18), a group of around 300 dolphins was sighted at St Ives Bay in a ‘feeding frenzy’, reports Cornwall Live.

The animals were reportedly ‘circling an underwater food source’, leading to the spectacle of dolphins skipping and diving out of the water, as birds flocked down from above to join the feast.

Since 2019, there have been more than 75 sightings of humpback whales off the coast of Cornwall, as the Cornwall Wildlife Trust reports a growing number of cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises) appearing near the English coast.
