A person is assisting police with their inquiries after the body of an 11-month-old baby was found inside an elite private school.

Kingsway Christian College in Darth, Perth, is yet to publicly comment on the gruesome discovery, which was made late on Wednesday afternoon.

The school is one of Western Australia’s most prestigious colleges, costing upwards of $10,000 per year.

West Australian Police confirmed on Thursday morning a person has been assisting with the investigation.

They offered no further detail about the person in question, and would not confirm if the death is being treated as suspicious.

Three crews from St Johns Ambulance Service arrived at the campus about 5.40pm on Wednesday.

The baby was declared dead.

Forensics officers were also on the scene and appeared to focus on one classroom in particular.

They also paid close attention to a white van which was on the campus and eventually towed away by police, The West Australian reported.

Officers continued to search the area using torch light late into Wednesday evening.

The school, 17km north of Perth’s CBD, is a co-educational school with pupils from kindergarten to Year 12.

While the school is currently closed due to the Easter school holidays, an after-hours daycare facility was open and operational earlier on Wednesday.

Children had been coming and going for much of the day before the body was found.

The centre reopened on Thursday, with the college confirming holiday care and daycare activities were running as usual.

Western Australian Police told Daily Mail Australia investigations are ongoing.
