Parents told to ‘completely destroy’ baby teething toy over fears it can cause young children to choke

Parents have been told to ‘completely destroy’ a baby teething toy over fears it could cause children to choke to death.

Product Safety Australia has issued a recall for Xinda Pty Ltd’s ‘necklace cross chewy teether toy pencil chew kids topper sensory biting silicone’ after it failed to meet mandatory safety standards for children up to 36 months. 

‘The product may pose a choking or suffocation hazard for young children, which can lead to severe injury or death,’ PSA said in a statement.

The teething toy is sold nationally through eBay.

Customers have been told to dispose of the toy and contact Xinda Pty Ltd to arrange for a full refund. 

‘To obtain a refund consumers will be requested to provide Xinda Pty Ltd with a photograph or video to show that the product has been completely destroyed,’ the PSA statement said.  

The toy was sold online between September 8, 2020 and March 6.
