Nicola Sturgeon warned she faces fight to retain her own constituency in crucial election

The Scottish Labour Party leader Anas Sarwar told Sky News that he is confident he can take on Nicola Sturgeon in her Glasgow Southside constituency. Mr Sarwar outlined that his goals are to get the Labour Party “back on track” and rebuild Scotland.

The Scottish Labour leader was asked: “If it comes down to it can you take her on?”

Mr Sarwar replied: “Absolutely I can take her on, I am standing in her own constituency as a demonstration of that.

“I do not want to take her on the way previous politicians have done, by shouting at them and getting angry at them.

“I think our politics deserves better than that, I am going to do it with honesty, humility, empathy, unity and I want to spread hope across the country.

“That is the way we get the Labour Party back on track and more importantly, rebuild the country we all love.”

Last week, Nicola Sturgeon and Douglas Ross launched a brutal attack on Anas Sarwar for “sitting on the fence”.

Following a furious clash between Sturgeon and Ross, the Scottish Labour Party leader appeared to mock the pair for setting a great example for young people during the NUS Scotland debate.

However, both Ms Sturgeon and Mr Ross fired their own digs at Mr Sarwar for “sitting on the fence”.

Mr Sarwar added: “I think my position is pretty clear, I just like to not forget about the half of the country that does not agree with me.”

Anas Sarwar replaced Richard Leonard as the leader of the Scottish Labour Party.

The Scottish Labour Party is currently polling behind by the SNP and the Scottish Conservative Party.

The Scottish Parliamentary election takes place on May 6, 2021.
