Nicola Sturgeon 'disingenuous' about rejoining EU 'Hard border and adopting the Euro!'

Scottish Conservative MSP for Dumfriesshire Oliver Mundell argued becoming independent would be terrible for Scotland. During an interview with Express.co.uk, Mr Mundell insisted Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP were not forthcoming with the difficulties that would face the nation if it was independent and wanted to join the European Union. He claimed Scotland would need to adopt the Euro, put up a land border between England and Scotland and implement austerity.

Mr Mundell said: “I think Nicola Sturgeon is completely disingenuous when it comes to rejoining the EU.

“The first thing is we don’t actually know that would be possible.

“Secondly, Nicola Sturgeon doesn’t spell out what it would look like if it was.

“The reality is it would be a hard border and it would mean potentially having to adopt the Euro as our currency.

“It would probably mean huge austerity in order to meet the EU’s fiscal targets for new members.

“I think Nicola Sturgeon refuses to engage with those issues and she refuses to acknowledge that by desperately pining after EU membership she is in danger of pushing Scotland further away from our biggest market and nearest neighbours in the rest of the UK.”

Mr Mundell continued to attack the SNP and insisted they were idealistic only to fail in practicality.

He said: “I think it is a classic example of how the SNP operate.

“I am hopeful that we can fight off this latest attempt to break up Britain.”

Scottish voters will head to the polls on Thursday, May 6, to cast their ballots on the 129 Members of Scottish Parliament (MSPs) across 73 constituencies they want to represent them for the next five years.

There are a total of 25 parties running in the Holyrood election.
