‘That was a bit worrying to see that going in a restaurant, somewhere that serves food,’ a local told 7 News.

Beach Burrito Company chief operating officer Angus Warren said that the restaurant goes through regular inspections from City of Holdfast Bay health inspectors, the Adelaide Advertiser reported.

‘In the past seven years we have always enjoyed at least a four-star rating (with five being the highest possible),’ he said.

‘I remind everyone that we at Beach Burrito take the health and safety of our customers as our highest priority and maintain best practice food handling procedures in our kitchen.’

He said the business’ most recent inspection was completed on April 15 – three days after the mouse video.

Mr Warren said he had seen the footage but defended his restaurant, saying rodent invasions were part of running a business in such a populated area.

‘I’ve had a chance to view the video, and it’s always a little surprising to see a visitor where you don’t want them,’ he said.

‘But things like this are a fact of life. It’s part and parcel of living and operating a business in a densely populated and built up area.

‘This video unfortunately showed the less glamorous side of hospitality that every operator is aware of.’

Mr Warren said that the unwanted guest may have been from Beach Burrito Co’s neighbours, one of which is a building that has remained vacant and derelict for the past 10 years.

‘On our other side we have an old building that has just had major renovations performed so you can imagine what that has done for the local furry friend population,’ he said.

He said the business had hired a company to inspect and maintain a high standard to hygiene within the restaurant.

7 News said, ‘Holdfast Bay Council inspectors have carried out more than 200 inspections since July last year, issuing five fines.’

The Glenelg Beach Burrito Co. is part of an Australian  Mexican restaurant chain with ten venues around Australia.
