A heartbroken mother found her teenage daughter dead on the sofa after being bullied online, an inquest has heard.

Jade Mitchell, 18, was struggling to cope after online bullies targeted her to say ‘nasty things about her and her looks’ and was found dead after taking a ‘cocktail of alcohol and illicit drugs,’ the coroner said.

An inquest heard Jade had been staying with her mum Jane Mitchell and a friend during lockdown.

But she was tragically found dead on the sofa in the ferry port town of Holyhead, Anglesey, in June 2020.

In a statement, mother Jane said her daughter had been under the care of a mental health team before her death and was ‘crying out for help.’

She said: ‘I know she was being bullied online and in person, they would say nasty things about her and her looks.

‘A doctor had told her she needed to stop drinking because she had the liver of a 60-year-old.’

The inquest heard Jade would drink up to 12 cans a day and had been diagnosed with OCD, PTSD, social anxiety and ADHD.

Mum Jane said she found her daughter in the morning ‘slouched over’ with blue hands and lips before desperately starting CPR.

Jane said: ‘She was so still, her face and lips were blue.

‘I don’t think this was an attempt by Jade to harm herself, I think it was just an accident.’

A postmortem by Dr Brian Roberts found Jade had 'potentially fatal levels' of methadone in her system along with 79mg of alcohol and traces of diazepam

The inquest in Caernarfon, North Wales, heard cocaine was also detected in her blood.

Assistant coroner Sarah Riley concluded Jade died as a result of respiratory depression due to methadone, diazepam and alcohol toxicity.

The coroner at Caernarfon recorded a conclusion of a drug and alcohol-related death. She said the youngster had a history of mental health and ‘substance misuse’ problems.

The inquest heard the tragic teenager had lived mainly with her late father David Jones who separated from Jane Mitchell in 2015.

But at the beginning of a lockdown she and a friend had moved in with her mother who said Jade had been ‘bullied online and in person.’

Grieving Mr Jones, 58, died in November 2020 after being beaten up at his ex-partner’s home. A man has been jailed for his manslaughter.

Tributes poured in for tragic Jade following her death.

Her aunt Sheryl Jones described her as a ‘beautiful niece’ when she launched an appeal to raise funds for her funeral.

Friend Aiofe Ward said: ‘RIP Jade, I honestly don’t have no words I’m speechless. I wish I had the chance to say a thank you for everything you ever did for me. You helped me through so much.

‘You will never be forgotten, I will miss you lots.’
