Missing elderly Melbourne couple are found in Woomelang after disappearing for two days

An elderly couple who went missing for two days after failing to turn up to a medical appointment have been found.    

Otto and Gerda, both 87, from Bentleigh in Melbourne’s south-east were last seen leaving a car park on Kings Way about 6.30pm on Tuesday in their gold Lexus.

Victoria Police said the pair were spotted at least twice on Wednesday night but responding officers found no sign of them. 

However police said in a statement on Thursday morning the couple ‘were located safely in Woomelang’  – 380km from their home – and will be seen to by paramedics. 

‘It’s understood the couple, both 87-years-old, were located inside their vehicle by a member of the public in the township of Woomelang about 8am.’

The couple’s sedan was first seen bogged near a lake north of Rainbow in Victoria about 5pm on Wednesday. 

Police believe they were assisted by a truck driver and were seen driving north on Henty Highway towards Hopetoun.

The car was then spotted again on Sealake-Birchip Road in Birchip at about 9.10pm by a passer-by who drove past a parked gold sedan with two people inside.

But when police arrived the vehicle was gone. 

Concerned family members had raised the alarm on Wednesday morning after the couple failed to attend a prearranged medical appointment.

Police have thanked the public for their assistance in finding the missing couple.
