'Mind your own business!' Britons FURIOUS as Joe Biden sends Brexit warning to UK

The UK and US have historically been close allies but the implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol after Brexit has triggered simmering tensions between the two global superpowers. During his election campaign at the end of last year, Mr Biden, who is of Irish heritage, warned he would ensure “ensure there was no US-UK trade deal if the implementation of Brexit imperils the Good Friday agreement”.

He has also repeatedly warned the UK to not make the Good Friday Agreement a “casualty of Brexit.”

The Biden administration sees the Protocol as being vital in protecting the Good Friday Agreement, but tensions have escalated in Northern Ireland, where unionists feel they are slowly being incorporated into a united Ireland, within the European Union.

Despite this, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken continued to insist during a press conference with UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab the US would protect the Good Friday agreement above all else.

He said: “As Brexit-related provisions of the Northern Ireland protocol begin to be implemented, we will continue to encourage the UK to prioritise political and economic stability.”

But the latest warning from the Biden administration has triggered a furious reaction from several Express.co.uk readers.

Reacting to our initial story, one wrote: “Butt out Joe. None of your business.”

A second person commented: “Keep your nose out of UK. Look after your own country Biden.”

Another reader said: “Biden needs to look after his own southern border before ours.”

The Biden administration has continued to insist the hard border between the two countries should never be implemented.

But this also creates an equally fractious border between Northern Ireland and Great Britain in the Irish Sea.

During the press conference with Mr Raab earlier this week, Mr Blinken was keen to highlight the positive aspects of US-UK relations.

He said: “We’ve stood shoulder to shoulder for nearly 20 years, sharing a mission and having each other’s backs.

“We’ll never forget it.

“The United States has no closer ally, no closer partner than the United Kingdom.

“I’m glad of the chance to say that again here today.”
